In Pursuit of Righteousness

Romans 10 vs. 3-4 “For being ignorant of the righteousness that comes from God and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes”

Dikaiosune, that’s the Greek word for Righteousness. It means to be justified and right in God’s sight. It is a character of God himself and no man can attain it on his own except God attributes it to him. You can’t earn God’s righteousness by the works of your hands no matter how good and commendable they are. It is not by works lest any man should boast. It will be an endless race chasing righteousness by doing good deeds and trying to keep God’s law. People who think it’s their good deeds that qualifies them as being righteous and thus try to establish it with their works are only ignorant of the fact that true righteousness comes from God and theirs is a filthy rag (Isaiah 64 vs. 6). You are not righteous because of your Holier than thou attitude, rather you are righteous when God calls you righteous. Remember the definition “Dikaiosune” – justified and right in God’s sight.  It’s not a function of how you see yourself; it’s a function of how God sees you. You might see yourself as not being good enough to be called righteous, when in actual fact God sees you as righteous and vice versa.

So what does one have to do to attain God’s true righteousness? Nothing, absolutely nothing. Just believe in Jesus and you will be approved and certified righteous in God’s sight. (Romans 3 vs. 21-22). Doing something about it is like trying to gain it by our own works. As God’s own children, He clothes us with his righteousness irrespective of our dirty past or the works of our hands. Even though, sometimes we might miss our step and fall into sin. That doesn’t terminate our righteous state.

Beloved let’s not neglect this gift we’ve received through faith in Jesus Christ in pursuit of trying to establish a filthy rag counterfeit. The truth about you as a Child of God is that you’ve been made righteous.  You don’t have to work it out yourself. Bask in this truth today. God Bless You.
